BMW has rolled out a pair of striking concepts for this weekend’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in California.
Headlining the unveiling is the new Concept M4 GTS, a muscly makeover of the still-new M4 Coupe that BMW has dressed in a cool grey finish with contrasting orange highlights and of course a load of aerodynamic and under-the-skin enhancements.
M4 CSL
BMW has also identified the concept coupe as a technology preview for a coming new production model, “to be unveiled at a later date”.
Expect that model to wear the same M4 GTS name as this concept, following the M3 GTS models of generations past.
Features starring in the concept and promised to debut with that new model include the same water-injection system that delivered improvements in performance and fuel consumption for the recent M4 MotoGP Safety Car.
Exact numbers are still to be confirmed, although BMW claimed an eight percent improvement for the MotoGP car.
Importantly, BMW’s M division claims that nothing about the Concept M4 GTS would keep it from being eligible for use on public roads.
M4 GTS
“While the BMW M4 Coupe embodies the ideal combination of motor sport genes and unrestricted everyday usability, the BMW Concept M4 GTS previews an emotionally powerful and exclusive special model conceived with an eye for trailblazing technology and a keen focus on the race track,” BMW M president Frank van Meel said.
“Despite its outstanding track ability, it is still fully road-legal. This is racing technology for the road in the truest sense.”
Leading those changes is that famous white body colour with the navy, light blue and red striping familiar to BMW M fans and rivals alike.
